The fortunes on offer to the winner of this year's World Series of Poker....
LOOKS LIKE $10,000,000 Pals of mine in Las Vegas in a position to know are now confident the first prize at the WSOP 2006 Main Event will be $10,000,000, beating last year’s recording breaking $7,500,000 by more cash than Chris Moneymaker won in 2003. This in itself is an insight into the financial rampage global poker is enjoying. For the price of a burger and a bender a reasonable online player is in with a real chance of landing a slot via satellite events and taking part in this extraordinary tournament. Beyond that Lady Luck and Sir Simon Skill will then be required to help you hack your way through the likely field of eight thousand contestants.
THE LADIES ARE COMING! A very elegant female poker player that I know has already secured her entry to the opening games and is confident that within the next three years the Main Event will be won by a woman! I asked her if she had anyone in mind other than herself and she fired back, “Clonie Gowen! Best female player in the world. Better than Annie Duke or Jennifer Tilly!” (See also: Lean Hungry Women Poker Players ) I’d have to agree. Clonie Gowen loves to play $50-$100 Omaha and is usually involved in pots worth minimum $30,000 a time. This signals she has the temperament to take on a WSOP final table. Her favourite prey are the wealthy doctors and lawyers who inhabit that level of Omaha and whom she considers reasonably easy meat. This would further indicate she has the right “attitude” to accompany her temperament. With Hilary Clinton running for President in 2008-9 we might be looking at a twin female victory with Clonie wearing the 2009 WSOP Crown!
CASINO CAT-FIGHT! Clonie’s most serious outside threat comes from Isabelle “No Mercy” Mercier who believes that live tournaments like the WSOP require focus above all else. She’s on record that most players can’t maintain concentration levels on every single hand during twelve hour tournament days and that most of them begin to drift. “Every single hand has to be played to the best of your ability!” No wonder they call her “No Mercy”. Mercier is also a believer in real physical fitness and training to keep fatigue at bay as the hours of play begin to take their toll. If Isabelle isn’t at the casino, she’s at the gym or out running between the two. So, ladies: Train to win money, and lose weight as a bonus. Poker may well be the Devil’s idea of a good time but preparing for it might be your salvation?
