Poker Software Ideal Christmas Gifts For Poker Players
What to put in your poker playing partners stocking this year...
CHRISTMAS IS COMING! With Christmas in mind a swift look at the kind of software gift packages that are open to poker players now is simply jaw dropping. Awesome titles like “Texas Calculatem”, “Poker Spy” and “Poker Prophecy” promise all kinds of secret methods of giving you the edge over your opponents for prices ranging from twenty quid up into three figures. So what do these electronic tablets of wisdom sent down by the Poker Gods really offer the humble onliner for his hard earned cash?
CLASSIFIED INFORMATION “Poker Prophecy” claims to be able to tell you in very short order what kind of strength players you’re up against via a fast and sophisticated software programme which swiftly monitors and classifies your opposition by sifting through how often they finished “in the money” in sit-and-gos etc. It then hangs a label on them. “Fish” for no-hopers-“Average” for..er..Average? and “Pro” which is actually worth knowing. The downside comes when it classifies your own info and labels you a “Sardine”. If I was going to lay out a ton of money on one of these programmes I’d probably go for the rather tediously titled “Poker Office”.
OFFICE WARFARE No, it doesn’t feature Ricky Gervais marking cards and bluffing celebrities out of their royalties and their pants but it is easily the most comprehensive piece of kit available. All aspects of your game are tracked and the database will tell you pretty much anything you are likely to be able to use against an enemy. If the Taliban played poker, this is what they’d be hiding in a bush on the Pakistan border. Downside? As the title makes clear. This is a serious tool and using it effectively does feel rather like wading through mathematical glue. “Poker Spy” is a better presented programme visually but it’s certainly not as in-depth as “office”. Every item is colour coded and easy to spot. When you have more information on display than the dashboard of the Space Shuttle this is the very best use of a designer’s skills. Certainly the other packages on offer should head-hunt Spy’s art department. However, on overall effectiveness and despite its more aggressive title, “Spy” falls short of “Poker Office” in terms of its overall abilities.
LOOKING FOR A CHEAPER OPTION? I’m hopelessly biased of course but I’d say for £3.99 our Daily Star “All the Aces” book gives you most of what you need to succeed and it’s as easy and fun to digest as Christmas pudding.
