Poker kicks off in the premier leagues

£70 MILLION NOT ENOUGH
With Manchester United FC turning down the seventy million pound offer for a shirt deal from casino site Mansion.com it was interesting  to see Mansion turn its sights immediately on rival soccer team Liverpool FC, and it has now ended up with Tottenham Hotspurs. Aston Villa FC have already signed a multi-million pound seven year deal for shirt sponsorship with casino 32Red.com and with big celebrity poker sites looking for shirt deals, soccer could soon find itself owned by poker!

FREQUENTLY ASKED POKER QUESTIONS
Q: What is “Chinese” poker? I’ve noticed it mentioned on a lot of poker chat boards recently?
A: It tends to be played by four players and is a real hit with the professionals. Each player is dealt thirteen cards and is required to construct three hands. You need to form two five card hands and a single three card hand. The rules state that each five card hand must outrank the three card hand and of course straights and flushes do not count as three card hands. When each player has structured his three hands face down, all players turn over their cards at once in a gigantic showdown to decide the winner.

Q: Why are so many professional players wearing iPods at the poker table? Are they receiving illicit information from a guy with a hidden CCT camera?
A:
Nice idea, but no! All live games are policed to ensure that can’t happen. Most professionals use iPods to blot out distracting banter from their opponents. Along with sunglass it appears to be the next layer of defence against the enemy.

Q: I note a lot of articles saying that playing small to medium suited connectors is a waste of money and it amounts to “dream chasing” placing big bets on them pre-flop. What do you say?
A: Personally I happen to agree with Doyle Brunson (rarely a mistake). He loves medium suited connectors. In his Super System books he talks about being delighted to have these hole cards when other folk at the table have Aces or Kings and play them slow (which he rates as a big mistake). The slow playing of the high pair opposition produces the chance to see a cheap flop. If the flop confirms a good chance of converting your two suited connectors into a straight or a flush by the turn or the river, that’s the time to get behind your cards, especially if the high pairs are piling in with the hope of making three of a kind. The proviso is it MUST be a cheap flop because the odds of making the flush or the straight are EXTREMELY low which is why the pundits are against it. Statistically, it’s unlikely you’ll be successful but if you are it’s a big pay day. So remember: Cheap flop, feeling aggressive, go for it. Heavy pre-flop betting: Muck your cards.
